The Environmental Research & Education Foundation has announced that they have elected Big Truck Rental VP Robert Mecchi to their Board of Directors. With an extensive history in the waste industry, Robert has been the VP of Business Development for Big Truck Rental since 2010 and is the current Chairman of the WASTEC Board of Governors where he has chaired the WASTEC Statistics Program since 2005. In 2007 Robert received the honor of being selected WASTEC’s Member of the Year. He will also become the Co-Chair of the Environmental Industry Association’s Future Industry Leaders of America in 2013. Robert has served on EREF’s Auction Committee since 2008.
Prior to Big Truck Rental, Robert was President of Perkins Manufacturing. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications from Northern Illinois University and a Masters of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Robert lives in Illinois with his wife of twenty years Sharlene and their three children (Ryan, Dylan and Tera).

More and more municipalities are utilizing garbage truck rentals to meet the needs of their city or town’s waste hauling programs. The current economic environment has placed a considerable strain on municipalities nationwide dramatically limiting the available resources to purchase new refuse equipment to meet their city or town’s waste collection obligations. An interesting trend has been the utilization of garbage truck rentals as an option to an outright purchase. As the average front loader garbage truck sports a price tag of well over $200,000, renting the same trash truck for a modest monthly fee is quite an attractive option.
